Project reference 19732

Survey → Irrigation — Levels And Fall

Define the finished purpose, reference levels, underlying material condition and the evidence required by the receiving operation. Geometry alone does not establish structural or agronomic performance.

This reference assembles relevant extracts from the guide library. It is general project planning, not a local project report, verified specification or translated technical publication.

Irrigation Grade Design

Irrigation grade design starts with the method of applying water and the field's soil and supply conditions. Minimising unnecessary soil movement is one consideration alongside water distribution.

Before moving material

Survey the field with inlet and outlet structures.

Receiving operation and checks

Check the formed field and its operating behaviour. Record levels and water observations together.

A single published slope cannot replace site-specific irrigation design.

Irrigation Surface Handover

An irrigation-surface handover combines measured field geometry with the intended water-control arrangement. Dry-surface checks should be followed by appropriate operating observations where possible.

Before moving material

Confirm the design and inlet/outlet references.

Receiving operation and checks

Record observations during a controlled irrigation event. Compare the observed route with the intended operation.

No water-saving percentage is established without appropriate before-and-after evidence.

The Surface Is the Handover

The surface is the handover between operations. An excavator may finish its excavation, but the roller still needs suitable material, lift thickness and moisture. A scraper may finish shaping, but the irrigation operator still needs a connected fall to a usable outlet. Define acceptance at each transition instead of allowing the next machine to inherit an unresolved problem.

Before moving material

Name the operation that receives the surface and agree its requirements.

Receiving operation and checks

Release the area to the next operation only after outstanding defects are identified. Use independent level checks and project-specific material tests where required.

Visual smoothness alone does not prove compaction, bearing capacity or hydraulic performance.

Record the job inputs

Use this checklist to turn the scenario into a specific brief. Retain the design revision and agree who accepts each completed layer.

Checklist ticks apply only while this page is open. Include the completed brief in your project records.
